Applicants to the Teacher in Residence program must:
- be a professional from a country where education and training in the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) is limited
- already possess the educational background, professional experience and appropriate licensure/credentialing in their home country to provide services to individuals with disabilities (e.g. special-education, speech-language pathology)
- be committed to disseminating the skills and information they gain through the residency experience in their home country
- have written commitment for support from their colleagues for assistance in the design and implementation of a dissemination plan
- have spoken and written command of English sufficient to participate in professional discussions, university courses and with students and staff in an educational program
- be eligible to qualify for an H3-B visa into the United States and an exit visa from their home country
