Emotional Competencies in People Who Use AAC

The focus of this presentation will be exploring the relationship between language and emotional competencies. We will discuss the Early Development of Emotional Competence Assessment tool, an interview designed to elicit information about how families and professionals discuss emotions with children with complex communication needs. The presentation will introduce how this tool works, how we can use it to design AAC interventions, and some examples of how to promote emotional communication/learning with children with complex communication needs.
