Visual Schedules
Visual schedules help students keep track of expectations and make transitions during their day.
Nary a parent nor professional gets through their week without a planner, PDA, or other scheduling aide! So, it seems natural to provide such supports for our students as well. Visual schedules can provide cues that help guide students (and families & staff!) throughout the day. The layout can be customized for comprehension, vision and literacy needs, age appropriateness, and personal interest (motivation!).
Visual schedules can help support:
- transitions throughout the day
- building skills for independence (self-determination)
- creating cognitive clarity (about what is expected and when it will happen)
