The Bridge School was highlighted in the AAC chapter of Communication Sciences and Disorders: A Contemporary Perspective by Laura M. Justice (2009). This textbook is widely used in university level speech-language pathology courses.
Attention and Attention Management: The Bridge Between Perception and Learning
At AAC by the Bay in 2007, we introduced our attention management framework. This framework helps us address each of our students' unique "attention profiles" and to customize our classroom environments in ways that maximize each student’s ability to attend, with the ultimate goal of increasing participation, motivation and achievement.

Participatory Design of AAC Systems: Practical Strategies and Positive Outcomes
Two of our speech-language pathologists presented this poster at the ASHA Schools Conference in Phoenix in 2006. It describes the process and gains made when students are involved in the design and set-up of their AAC systems.

The Bridge School: Educational Inclusion Outcomes over Fifteen Years
A research article was published in the journal AAC in 2005. In this peer-reviewed paper, we report the results of our examination of archival educational data collected by the Bridge School education program staff during Bridge School’s first 15 years.
Communication Services for Individuals with Severe Disabilities: Current Best Practices
As a member of the National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities (NJC), our Education and Research Program Manager, Mary Hunt-Berg, featured Bridge School students and staff in this presentation with NJC members, Lee Mc Lean, Nancy Brady, Billy Ogletree, and Diane Paul. Originally presented at the ASHA Convention, San Diego, CA, November 2005 and a version of this presentation was prepared for the Bridge School Board of Directors meeting, December 2005.
Using Outcome Research to Inform Educational Practice in AAC

This presentation at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s annual convention in 2003 shares some of the issues that we addressed when starting a research program in a school setting. A similar presentation was given at the CSUN conference the same year.
