Camp Program 2016

Campers

June 20, 2016 to June 24, 2016 - 9:30AM to 12:30PM

Building Bridges Camp is designed to give individuals who use AAC/AT an opportunity to develop their communication skills in a fun, motivating, no-pressure environment. This year 40 campers ages 5-17 years, attend a week-long day camp experience. Divided into four groups according to age, campers participate in activities designed to support the development of their AAC and AT skills. Building Bridges Camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop increased independence and abilities.

The camp program is designed to pair adults attending the Training Institute with a camper throughout the week. We encourage campers to bring a trainer with them to the Training Institute. If a camper does not have an adult attending with them, adults attending the Training Institute without a camper will be assigned as their partner as available. The ratio for campers to trainers will be one-to-one therefore campers will only be accepted to camp if they have an adult to attend with them or if an adult is available.

Siblings

June 20, 2016 to June 24, 2016 - 9:30AM to 12:30PM

Siblings just want to have fun and that's what happens at the Building Bridges Camp. Campers participate in all activities related to the camp theme in their own group. The shared activities and group discussions strengthen relationships, help develop independence, and offer an opportunity to explore different avenues of communication. One of the most important aspects of camp is the opportunity for siblings to meet others who might share the same feelings, have the same questions, and have had similar experiences.

Trainers

June 18, 2016 to June 24, 2016 - 9:00AM to 6:00PM (9:00AM-1:00PM on Friday)

The Institute is a training program for teachers, speech pathologists, classroom assistants, and others who work with children using AAC/AT in a home or school environment. The training program focuses on:

  • augmentative communication
  • assistive technology
  • instructional strategies

The Training Institute is more effective if participants attend with a person who uses AAC. If this is not possible, we always have campers who need a trainer. There is time to work, learn, teach and play in an environment designed to maximize communication.

The week-long Training Institute is unique in that it provides:

  • intensive instruction
  • hands-on experience
  • instruction on technology applications
  • small group interaction
  • applied training activities
  • professional networking
  • access to experts in the fields of AAC, AT and Special Education

Fee Schedule

Camper (AAC User) $ 500.00

Sibling Camper $ 350.00

Scholarships

The Bridge School is fortunate enough to have generous donations to fund partial scholarships. These funds are available to provide scholarships to offset the costs of camp for those who demonstrate need. Applications for scholarships are included in the registration packet available once you have completed the initial online application.
