Too few resources
Too much responsibility
Too determined to give up
Whether supporting AAC learners at home, in school, in an outpatient clinic, or in some other setting, many practitioners struggle with having inadequate resources. In this presentation, we consider the role that this plays on AAC supports and services across service delivery settings. We also look at the trend toward capacity-driven supports, where AAC decisions are based as much on the abilities and limitations of the intervention team as they are on the individual with complex communication needs, and will consider ways to move the team toward more individualized supports. Practical strategies for strengthening AAC intervention sessions and classroom implementation of AAC will also be discussed. Finally, we will explore ways of building a culture of sustainable AAC supports.
