Students in Action

This fall several students have begun doing jobs designed to increase communication opportunities. At the beginning of the year the educational team discussed short and long-term communication goals and developed an array of activities, strategies and lessons to support student growth. School jobs are one activity established to provide students with an opportunity for daily practice with communication goals. The classroom teacher spoke with the administrative staff to explain the goals and develop opportunities for the students to come to the offices. Ongoing discussion and modification help to maximize these interactions. Over time social scripts have evolved and students’ responsibilities have increased.
